Match Report: Hatfield Peverel vs East Thurrock Community Football Club

East Thurrock CFC go five unbeaten in the league as the Rocks secure 3 points on the road.

The match began with the visitors creating some early chances to try and put their noses in front. They were easily able to make their way to the Hatfield box with some penetrating passes and good dribbling, but the shots they did get away were not converted. However, East Thurrock did come close when a good corner fell on the head of Ray Snares, but he was unable to keep it down, directing the ball over. Soon after the visiting team were attacking down the left wing and a good ball was played across the goal, but some last-ditch defending blocked it and it went behind for a corner.

The Rocks’ hard work soon paid off as they opened the scoring courtesy of number 9 Iziengbe Ikponmwosa-Ikuero giving them a well-deserved lead, turning in a loose ball from a free kick that had slipped through the keeper’s hands.

Shortly afterwards the hosts came close to an equaliser, as a shot from range, which looked like it was going well over the bar, dipped down onto the crossbar catching the Rocks defence off guard. However, the home attack was unable to convert the rebound.

The visitors got back to dominating the half in search of a second goal. This search was ended when Reiss Hatwell put the ball across the goal just before being taken out by one of the Hatfield players, allowing Harry Prince to slot the ball into the net. The referee then went back to the previous challenge to give the home player a red card, putting the hosts at a further disadvantage. The referee then blew for halftime shortly after.

The second half began with more possession from the home side, something there wasn’t much of in the first 45. The Rocks were now more focused on not conceding than going further ahead so almost everyone was kept back. The visitors were being much more sloppy now, giving the ball away cheaply, yet the hosts never capitalised on this. East Thurrock had a few chances to put themselves further in front with a few shots from outside the box, but were denied by some great goalkeeping.

Owen Dixie then had a chance to score when he went 1 on 1 with the keeper but his shot went straight into the chest of the Hatwell number 1.

Heavy passes stopped the visiting side from getting many more chances, however a long ball over the top was enough to put Zizi through, but he unfortunately scuffed the shot.

Right at the end of the game the Rocks were awarded a penalty. With the final chance to score again, the penalty was saved just as the full time whistle blew, ending the game with a 2-0 win for the Rocks.

Next up for the Rocks is a home game against Alresford Colne Rangers on 8th Feb, 14:30 kick-off.
