The Rocks slumped to a heavy 6-1 defeat against Hatfield Peverel.
East Thurrock got off to the worst possible start, conceding after just 3 minutes, with a long throw reaching the far post to be headed in from a yard out. It was an open game, with both sides missing chances.
Until the 27th minute, when the visitors doubled their lead, with a scramble in the box ending with a volley thumped in past Jamal Kuku. In the 35th minute, Hatfield took a commanding lead as they hit the Rocks on the counter to make it 3-0.
Just one minute later, East Thurrock pulled one back as the Rocks’ best performer on the day Bobby Reeman played a sensational ball to Jack Coventry, who volleyed into the top corner to give the hosts a lifeline.
East Thurrock came out trying to produce a comeback and brought on substitutes Danyal Bissessur and Adam Knight to help their cause.
The game was then out of their sight as Hatfield scored 19 minutes into the second half, as Jamal Kuku made a wonderful save on to the post but the rebound was tucked away. It went from bad to worse as the visitors scored a fifth 4 minutes later, with a long ball ending with the Hatfield forward lobbing the goalkeeper.
The Rocks’ misery was complete as Peverel scored with 12 minutes left as the ball fell to the forward who’s shot hit the inside of the left post and went across the line, much to the disbelief of the home fans in the Pen. That was the end of the scoring to end a terrible day for East Thurrock, who will want to bounce back next weekend in a cup match away to Harold Hill.
